The 12.9 kilometer Confederation Bridge is the longest bridge over
ice-covered waters in the world. It bridges the strait between New Brunswick and Borden,
PEI. Opened on May 31, 1997, it carries two lanes of traffic 24 hours a day, seven
days a week. The Confederation Bridge cost 1 Billion dollars to build. Construction
was started in the fall of 1993 and completed in the spring of 1997.
